Toowoomba TAIKO

Taiko

Taiko is a word used to describe the traditional fat-bodied Japanese drums that have been an essential feature of Japanese culture for over 1000 years. Taiko performance consists of many components in technical rhythm, kata (form), bachi (stick) grip, clothing, and the particular instrumentation.

Toowoomba

Toowoomba Taiko is a group of Japanese enthusiasts and expatriates who meet to learn the exciting discipline of Taiko. We believe in the principle of minna no taiko, which means “Taiko drumming for anyone and everyone”. We are an inclusive, not-for-profit club, and seek to share the passion, joy, dynamics, and energy of Taiko by introducing and sharing it to the wider Toowoomba region.

Toowoomba Taiko are very grateful for the support from Toowoomba's Japanese sister city, the City of Takatsuki, for their generous donation of taiko (drums), gifted to Toowoomba Regional Council, that we are custodians of.

You can see us live performing and/or giving interactive workshops at a variety of events through the year. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to find out where we will be, or contact us via one of the links here.
